Adolescents

I will meet with a young person and their parent separately or together and work out an approach to treatment. I think of adolescence as a largely neglected ‘third epoch’ of life, which is the transition between childhood and adulthood. It is in this transition moment where many difficulties can be amplified or appear unannounced.

My approach tends to look at the full context of the difficulties from both the adolescent’s and the parent’s point of view. Once these viewpoints have been established, I will then discuss a treatment approach to respond to these difficulties. This may include:

– Psychotherapy with the adolescent alone
– Parent meetings alongside adolescent treatment
– Family therapy
